East Harlem Tutorial Program is a non-profit organization located in a five story 1930’s building and serves more than eight hundred youngsters annually. The Architecture for Humanity team provided pro-bono design services with the goal of working with students, staff, and teaching volunteers to envision newly enhanced and efficient spaces for staff, storage, learning and community experience.
-A charrette was conducted to understant the user needs.
-A survey was done to understand the building and furniture inventory.
-Zones were developed to guide the users through the various space types.
- Floors 2, 3, and 4 were dedicated for groups of grade levels.
- Color designation was used on each floor to create group ownership.
- Existing furniture was refurbished and rearranged to create spaces for the various activities and learning environments desired.
